What Is Executive Coaching?
Primarily reserved for the mid-level to senior-level executives, executive coaching is a hot trend that is generally a custom fit, one on one training session with another professional. Executive training is for those executives wishing to improve leadership skills and job performance. The "Executive Coach" is typically one who has had much success in the same field as the one being coached.; one who can relate to his or her business environment. The coach provides feedback to help guide the executive being trained to find ways to achieve goals within a certain period of time, or to be able to change or develop desired behaviors in employees. One of the most desirable aspects of executive coaching is the fact that it is a training event that helps one achieve not only short-term goals, but also goals where time is limited. Executive coaching can even be tailored to be goal specific, where the executive wishes to achieve a specific goal, and the coach trains the executive thusly. But the best part for most executives is that executive coaching is PERSONALLY tailored approach to learning. Typically, a high level executive has very little feedback from fellow workers. Who would want to tell the boss he is doing something wrong? And even if someone didn't get fired for doing that, most executives don't work with others with as much experience as they do, so the advice is useless. Executive coaching offers feedback and some objectivity from someone with the same credentials as the executive. Executive coaching should not be looked at as a one time event however. Development of leadership skills is an ongoing process. This means that an executive should expect to have several coaching sessions with an executive coach over the course of a year. Mainly because an executive coach stays aware and is involved with the specific industry and his or her experiences are the same as the ones of the executive being coached.
